Foreword from Dr. Stephen C. Morgan
Chairman of the Los Angeles County Fair Association
President – University of La Verne

Developing the crucial bond between our children, families, educational and business communities.

Every community needs quality child care. But when the emphasis grows from “care” to “development,” the benefits increase dramatically for our children, families, and society as a whole. With that vital goal in mind, we at the University of La Verne have partnered with the Fairplex Child Development Center since 1991. This partnership has maximized the quality of both the Center’s services and the University’s child-development teaching program. The ultimate beneficiary is our entire community, which is fortunate enough to have access to a truly leading-edge facility like the Fairplex Child Development Center.

Many research studies clearly indicate that high-quality early childhood development – not just “babysitting” -- has a profound impact on social interaction, family dynamics, educational success, and even on the effectiveness of the business community. One research study summed it up quite well by stating “economic benefits of child care far exceeds its costs.” You’ll see many enlightening research examples throughout this brochure.

The Fairplex Child Development Center’s innovative programs are based on established child development research, to assure optimum educational and social benefits. As the Center’s reputation has grown, it continues to serve a rapidly expanding regional community. This has increased the need for Child Development Center expansion of facilities and services, which has increased the importance of financial support. Please join me in supporting this vital resource. We will all benefit, now and in the future.

Our Mission
We are a premier model, early care and education program in collaboration with the University of La Verne. Our staff and leadership are dedicated to providing the highest quality, safe, nurturing, educational environment where diverse children, families and adults come together to learn and grow. We cherish children, support families, build community among diversity, and pursue excellence in early education.

Our Values

  • We value respect for all people, their families and cultures. Children come to us as a part of a family, with distinct family values and cultures. We strive to create continuity between home and school. We provide an environment where children can learn tolerance and peaceful acceptance for children, families and cultures that are different than their own.
  • We value respect for our environment and the animals with which we share the earth. We will strive to provide an environment where children can learn to care for animals and the world they live in.
  • We value the supportive relationships we create with our families and the community.
  • We value the opportunity for children to have a happy and healthy childhood.
  • We value excellence in educational opportunities for children and adults.

Our Vision
Our vision is one of happy, healthy children who have developed a love for learning and a value and respect for others, and of healthy families, who are emotionally and economically stable and have the resources they need for good parenting.

To realize our vision, we are committed to:

  • Analyzing our region’s changing needs, to assure that we always meet these needs by developing programs, expanding facilities, etc.
  • Continually collaborating with the University of La Verne to help keep the entire childhood education industry informed about effective methods and practices of childhood development.
  • Helping elementary schools be fully prepared for incoming Kindergarteners, enabling students to maximize their educational, physical and social success.
  • Helping families make sure their children are 100% ready to transition to Kindergarten.
