POMONA, Calif. - Automobile enthusiasts are sure to find something to their liking at the NHRA Motorsports Museum presented by Automobile Club of Southern California. Located on the Fairplex grounds, the museum is roaring to go for the 2013 L.A. County Fair season.
A dream of National Hot Rod Association Founder the late Wally Parks, the NHRA Motorsports Museum opened in 1998 to house a diverse collection of automotive speed, ingenuity and style. During the L.A. County Fair, the museum is open from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Fair goers will want to take advantage of the incredible 50 percent off ticket discount: Admission is just $4 for adults; $3 for seniors 55 and older; $3 for students ages 6 to 15 and children five and under admitted free with paid adult.
“Wally Parks wanted to open a museum that educated the public about all things motorsports and America’s love affair with automotive performance,” said Larry Fisher, executive director of the museum. “We are proud to be serving L.A. County fair goers and we’re ready to give fans a revved up experience when they visit the museum.”
This year, fans can catch a glimpse of automotive engineering at its finest with two new displays, including the Pikes Peak record holding Freightliner Cascadia racing machine of Mike Ryan, powered by Gale Banks Engineering of Azusa, and the 8,000 horsepower Auto Club of Southern California Ford Mustang Funny Car of the 2009 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing world champion Robert Hight.
Bring the kids to the museum for a “hands-on” motorsports adventure. Kids of all ages can jump inside 15-time world champion John Force’s Funny Car and test their reaction time on an NHRA timing system. The NHRA Museum is proud to be a part of the FairKids Field Trip Program which allows students in pre-k through eighth grade to experience the Fair’s fun curriculum for free. Based on California State Standards and open to public, private and home school students, visit the FairKids website to learn more.
Fun for the whole family, the L.A. County Fair runs Aug. 30 through Sept. 29, 2013 and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays except Labor Day. For more information about the L.A. County Fair, visit www.lacountyfair.com.
