CELEBRATE COVINA DAY AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR
Covina Day is Oct. 2

Each year the L.A. County Fair honors Community Heroes – seniors, adults and young adults – from 19 surrounding Inland Valley cities during the 23 days of the Fair, Sept. 5 – Oct. 4. Friday, Oct. 2 is Covina Day at the Fair, a day for celebrating volunteers, humanitarians, students, neighbors and community organizations working to make their city a better place to live for everyone.

Covina Day festivities include a parade down Broadway and a presentation on the Pepper Street Stage honoring Covina community heroes.

Taking a prominent place in the parade is Kay Manning, Covina community hero. “Covina is fortunate to have many outstanding volunteers, but few have had the lasting impact on the lives of so many as Kay Manning,” states Walter Allen, III, Covina’s mayor. Kay is active in Covina Yellow Ribbon Committee, Covina Christmas Parade Committee, St. Louise De Merrilac Church and Damien High School. With her son serving in the Marines, Kay has spearheaded the formation of an independent non-profit organization, Covina Yellow Ribbon Committee that covers the cost of providing banners for each Covina military service man or woman whose family cannot afford the cost. Covina proudly displays 200 banners. Kay serves on the Youth Accountability Board working with police to intercept youthful first offenders. She co-chaired the committee that brought the Vietnam Moving Memorial Wall to Covina in 2008.

Covina residents, friends, family and supporters can join their community celebration at a reduced admission price with a buy-one-get-one-free admission coupon good for Friday, Oct. 2! Coupons are available at the Covina Chamber of Commerce, City Hall and other community locations. Come for the Fair; stay for the community festivities: parade at 5 p.m. and hero presentation at 5:30 p.m.

The L.A. County Fair continues Wednesday – Sunday through Oct. 4, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Live thoroughbred horse racing Sept. 10 – 28, dark Mondays Sept. 14 and 21 and Tuesdays. For information on ways to save at the Fair, visit lacountyfair.com.
