CHEER ON CLAREMONT AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR
Claremont Day is Sept. 24

Claremont community spirit hits the streets, walkways and stages of the L.A. County Fair Thursday, Sept. 24, during the annual Claremont Day festivities. From saluting the city’s community heroes to cheering on the Claremont High School marching band in a parade to watching the ponies run in Claremont’s honor, the day screams, “We Love Claremont!”

Since it is your city’s day, don’t pay full price to join the fun at the Fair. Claremont residents, employees and friends can receive a buy one, get one free admission coupon from various locations in the city. Then, the fun starts at 2:40 p.m. at Fairplex Park where the Race of the Day is named in honor of Claremont.

Don’t forget to stop by the Community Expo, where Claremont businesses, civic and community organizations will fill Pepper Street from noon to 9 p.m. with booths offering information and goodies.

At 5 p.m., line up along the Fair parade route and cheer on local civic organizations, schools and community groups as they march down Broadway, performing and tossing Mardi Gras beads to the expectant crowd. Taking a prominent place in the parade are the town’s Community Heroes: Natalie Limon, a senior at Claremont High School who is editor-in-chief of the school newspaper among many other activities; Jack Harper, Claremont High’s football coach and athletic director; and Joan Bunte, a volunteer for the Claremont Education Foundation’s Shop and Dine in the Village fundraiser for schools, coordinator of Shoes That Fit charity events with Village merchants and founder of the “Power of Pink Party” for breast cancer survivors and patients. The three heroes will be feted at the Community Heroes Celebration at 5:30 p.m. at the Pepper Street Stage.

The evening will end with one of Claremont’s favorite bands, the Ravelers, providing entertainment into the evening. Visit the Fair during Claremont Day – this is a great opportunity to show your Claremont pride.

The L.A. County Fair continues Wednesday – Sunday through Oct. 4, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Live thoroughbred horse racing Sept. 10 – 28, dark Mondays Sept. 14 and 21 and Tuesdays. For information on ways to save at the Fair, visit lacountyfair.com.
