WEST COVINA CELEBRATES COMMUNITY AT THE L.A. COUNTY FAIR
West Covina Day is Oct. 1

The L.A. County Fair honors Community Heroes – seniors, adults and young adults – from 19 surrounding Inland Valley cities during the 23 days of the Fair, Sept. 5 – Oct. 4. Thursday, Oct. 1 is West Covina Day at the L.A. County Fair, a day to celebrate West Covina volunteers, humanitarians, students, neighbors and community organizations working to make their city a better place to live for everyone.

West Covina Day festivities include a parade down Broadway and a presentation on the Pepper Street Stage honoring West Covina community heroes.

Taking a prominent place in the parade is Fire Explorer Tony Saldana, West Covina’s junior community hero. Tony assists the West Covina Fire Department on medical response calls, traffic collisions and fire alarms. He also volunteers with West Covina city functions, such as Martin Luther Day, Cherry Blossom Festival, July 4th and National Night Out events. He helped raise more than $13,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Association in the city’s annual “Fill the Boot” fundraiser.

Joining Tony in the community parade and on the hero’s stage is Glenn Kennedy, West Covina’s adult community hero. Glenn was selected because “he gives more of his time to our city than anyone I know and asks nothing in return.” On many holidays, Glenn is busy removing graffiti from the city instead of spending time with his family. He volunteers for the West Covina National Little League, Volunteer Graffiti Painting program and Veteran’s Commission.

West Covina residents, friends, family and supporters can join their community celebration at a reduced admission price with a buy-one-get-one-free admission coupon good for Thursday, Oct. 1! Coupons are available at West Covina Chamber of Commerce, City Hall and other community locations. Come for the Fair; stay for the community festivities: parade at 5 p.m. and hero presentation at 5:30 p.m.

The L.A. County Fair continues Wednesday – Sunday through Oct. 4, closed Mondays and Tuesdays. Live thoroughbred horse racing Sept. 10 – 28, dark Mondays Sept. 14 and 21 and Tuesdays. For information on ways to save at the Fair, visit lacountyfair.com.
