Round Robin Fencing:

Fencing is a series of one-touch bouts with epée swords. Unchanged since 1912, the fencing event of modern pentathlon is a round-robin tournament, with a single touch deciding each match.
Available volunteer positions include:

Piste/Strip Assistant: Did you know? For the fencing event, Modern Pentathlon athletes use the epee, the largest and heaviest of the three weapons used in sport fencing.

Piste/Strip Assistants will be directly supporting the Fencing event. They will be responsible for running match results from assigned strips to the judging tables. Piste/ Strip Assistants will assist athletes in hooking up to the fencing reel and to keep mats in place. No past experience necessary.

General Assistance: We're looking for some friendly, active people to help with the various tasks that are needed to make this event a success!

Duties will included maintaining athlete and VIP lounge areas, greeting guests, distributing handouts and ushering spectators to their seats safely. Volunteers must be flexible and willing to complete tasks as needed during the event. No past experience necessary.

Laser-Run:
Laser-Run combines Running and Shooting in fast-paced and dynamic races including four rounds of laser pistol shooting from 10 meters distance and four times 800 meters run. Athletes have to hit a target 5 times before they can run. The total number of hits is 20 and total running distance is 3,200 meters.

Available volunteer positions include:
3200 M Starting Line Assistants: Did you know? To increase drama, competitors start their race in the order of their standing in the prior four events.

We are looking for responsible and engaging volunteers to act as Start/Finish Assistants for running portion of the Laser/Run event. Volunteers will be responsible for distributing numbers to athletes and assisting officials with designating start positions. No past experience necessary.

**Training for the position is necessary. Training will be held Tuesday, February 21st. The time is TBD.**

3200 M Assistant Course Marshalls:
Did you know? General George S. Patton was selected as the sole American competitor in the first-ever Olympic modern pentathlon at the 1912 Summer Games in Stockholm, Germany. General Patton lost consciousness after crossing the finish line during the running event due to the incredibly hot weather that day.

We are looking for energetic and observant volunteers to act as Course Marshall Assistants. Volunteers will be responsible for assisting Course Marshalls in observing that Pentathletes do not cut the course during the running portion of the Laser-Run event. No past experience necessary.

**Training for the position is required. Training will be held Tuesday, February 21st. The time is TBD.**

Laser-Run General Assistance:
Did you know? The Laser-Run portion is a combined event during which Pentathletes will complete four rounds of laser pistol shooting from 10 meters distance and four times 800 meters run.

We're looking for some friendly, active people to help with the various tasks that are needed to make this event a success!

Laser Pistol Volunteer Judge:
Did you know? Pentathletes use laser guns that are virtual replicas of the original guns uses – right down to the weight, standard pistol grip and the air pressure container, which simulates recoil when fired.

We are looking for responsible and observant volunteers to act as Volunteer Judges for the shooting portion of the Laser/Run event. Volunteer Judges will be assigned to a target and be responsible for standing behind shooters to supervise that the shooting requirements are met. No past experience necessary.

**Training for the position is required and will be offered onsite.**

Equestrian Show Jumping:
Did you know? For the equestrian event Modern Pentathlon athletes have to ride a horse they meet 20 minutes before the event.

We are looking for friendly Volunteers with experience with handling horses. For this event, Ambassadors and volunteers have to be comfortable around horses as you will be working with and around competing horses. If you are interested in working with the riding portion please look over the times and contact Natalie Chaidez, Ambassador Volunteer Program Coordinator, with your availability. She will be reaching out to you with more information.
